After healing her own unhealthy relationship with money, and transforming her financial disaster into prosperity and security, Karen McCall created a recovery program she has now used for more than twenty years to help individuals, couples, and businesses large and small. In the midst of her money troubles, she saw a need for something other than financial planners, accountants, and credit counselors. These experts could tell her what she should be doing differently, but she needed someone to help her understand the underlying causes of chronic, self-defeating overspending and credit card debt, underearning, and low or no savings. To save herself, she created practical, holistic tools that address these sources of pain and shame. McCall’s program supports people as they uncover their deep-seated attitudes about money; provides simple, step-by-step tools for healing areas of physical, emotional, and spiritual deprivation; and teaches skills and strategies for experiencing lasting personal and financial fulfillment even in the midst of economic challenges and reversals.

Nine harsh realities and nine practical solutions from Gordon Pape, Canada’s trusted and widely read financial expert

In this hard-hitting new book, personal finance expert Gordon Pape zeroes in on the realities of retirement that confront Canadians, including collapsing pension plans, a tax system that works against us, pitiful savings rates, and the fact that there are no “safe” investments. But it is not all doom and gloom if you take control of your money now!

With his trademark take-action advice, Pape helps you to understand the realities of retirement and offers practical solutions for protecting your family’s future in a rapidly changing world. If you want to ensure that you have enough money for retirement, Pape’s approach to finance will teach you how to create a financial plan that works, pay off debt (and stay debt free), invest wisely, understand your pension plan, minimize taxes, and more.

In these lean times, Retirement’s Harsh New Realities is a must-read for all Canadians. Take control and learn how to protect your future.

Becoming Your Own Banker – The Infinite Banking Concept describes the power of dividend-paying whole life insurance. It is education that the life insurance industry should have taught during the last 200 years. Unfortunately, the industry has concentrated on the death benefit qualities of the contract and has neglected to adequately describe the financing capabilities that it presents for the policy owners. This book demonstrates that your need for finance, during your lifetime, is much greater than your need for protection. Solve for this need through this instrument and you will end up with more life insurance than the companies will issue on you.

Why should you hire a financial advisor? The main reason isn’t just to make you rich (though that would be nice!). A good financial advisor actually offers you a complete picture of your overall financial situation, and can help you create a plan for your future that is fiscally sound.
In crafting a strategy for your money, expect to talk about all aspects of your life. Here are some factors that will be a part of your smart financial goals planning and strategy:
Setting Up Your Savings Toolbox
Planning for your future is not just about saving for retirement. An advisor will make sure you are saving for your senior years through a registered retirement savings plan (RRSP) and possibly a tax-free savings account (TFSA). However, they should also help you set up an emergency fund, deal with paying off your mortgage, plan for renovations and save for your children’s future. Part of a future financial plan also includes insurance. Your advisor may talk about life, disability and other insurance plans that will ensure that you’re not at risk of losing your savings because of something unexpected…

Just some bonuses to pass along! News, Tips & Tricks Although it is only bonus offers today you really should make note of a few of them. The first of course is from Aeroplan and their latest double miles offer for stays at Choice Hotels, second is the Cathay Pacific offer for flights from Canada that had its own post last night and finally the Saudia Alfursan Buy Miles bonus. It definitely is not as lucrative as the US Airways or Aviacna TACA bonus but with proper planning there are a couple of redemptions that could be worth buying the miles for as they can be bought for as little as 2 cents each. Of course depending on availability the 50,000 miles for economy class Canada to Europe on Saudia’s SkyTeam partners (Air France, KLM, Delta). You can buy the miles for ~$1020+tax and if you can find availability you could potentially save a few hundred dollars versus buying that flight outright with the airline if there is no seat sale…

Many young Canadians are putting their retirement at risk by not considering how much money they’ll need and delaying saving for retirement, according to a recent BMO Retirement Institute report.
Only one in 10 young adults between the ages of 18 and 34 have thought a lot about how much money they’ll need to save for retirement. And 27 per cent admit they haven’t even started saving for life after work.
Poor planning? Maybe. But, rather than worry about retirement, I’d suggest most young people should actually make getting out of debt their top financial priority.
Debt Reduction Takes Priority
Don’t get me wrong. There’s a lot to be said for the smart use of credit to reach a goal like home ownership or a college education. There’s also a big difference between someone who’s just finishing grad school and a 30-year-old electrician.
But they do have one thing in common: both need to be smarter about how much they borrow and what they do with that borrowed money…
