CHC Student Housing prepares to grow rapidly with support from Dundee group
– canadianbusiness.com
TORONTO – CHC Student Housing Corp. (TSXV:CHC) is joining forces with the Dundee financial group to create a bigger public company that would manage up to 4,700 residential beds in 13 markets from Fredericton to Windsor, Ont.
CHC is exected to be renamed Canadian Student Living Group, led by CHC chief executive Mark Hansen and his management team.
CHC and Dundee see student housing as an attractive asset class that’s underdeveloped in Canada.
They say only three per cent of post-secondary students in Canada live in purpose-built housing — compared with 12 per cent in the United States and 23 per cent in the United Kingdom.
CHC will be combined with Dundee Acquisition Ltd. (TSX:DAQ.A) — a publicly traded affiliate of Dundee Corp. (TSX:DC.A) — which will provide financial resources and business connections.
Dundee Acquisition has concurrently reached agreements with other parties to acquire additional housing properties and create a portfolio with total value of up to $420 million — including eight properties currently owned or managed by CHC…

Orders for US durable goods rebounded in July
– canadianbusiness.com
WASHINGTON – Orders to U.S. factories for big-ticket manufactured goods surged in July, lifted in part by the biggest increase in orders in a key investment category since January.
Orders for durable goods jumped 4.4 per cent in July, rebounding from a 4.2 per cent plunge in June, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. The changes in both months were driven by swings in the volatile category of commercial aircraft.
An important category that serves as a proxy for business investment rose 1.6 per cent in July, up from a 0.5 per cent rise in June. It was the best showing in this category in six months.
American manufacturers have struggled this year with a strong dollar, which has hurt exports and a drop in investment spending in the energy sector, reflecting falling oil prices.
The July increase in the investment category could be a sign that business investment is starting to rebound following the big cutbacks earlier this year. The upswing in June and July followed decreases in both March and April…
