BEIJING, China – China’s government has replaced Finance Minister Lou Jiwei, one of its most prominent figures in global financial circles, as Beijing pursues plans to rein in surging debt and stimulate its slowing economy.
The national legislature announced Monday that Lou would be succeeded by Xiao Jie, one of his deputies. Lou is 65, an age at which Cabinet ministers traditionally have retired. There was no word on whether he would take another post.
It was unclear if the handover would lead to a change in policy, which is made by the ruling Communist Party. But it comes as regulators are trying to rein in surging corporate debt while keeping economic growth on track.
Lou became minister in 2013 after serving as chairman of China’s sovereign wealth fund, the China Investment Corp.

October 2016 Dividend Income UpdateLearn, save, invest and prosper with My Own Advisor.
Welcome to my latest dividend income update.  For those of you new to these posts on my site, every month I discuss my approach to investing focusing on dividend paying stocks.  These posts remind you about the power of reinvested dividends over time.
You can visit my last income update here.

For this month’s dividend income update I thought I would highlight a few reasons why dividends matter to me.
Big Benefit #1 – Canadian Dividend Tax Credit
Dividends paid from many Canadian companies are eligible for a tax credit when you hold these companies in a non-registered account…

TORONTO – Unionized workers at Ford’s Canadian operations have accepted a new contract with the automaker.
Unifor, which represents some 6,700 workers at Ford, says the deal was approved by 58 per cent of the employees who voted.
The tentative contract was hammered out last week after marathon negotiations.
Unifor says Ford has promised to invest $713 million in its Canadian operations and the deal includes two wage increases of two per cent over four years.
There are also signing bonuses that total $12,000 over the term of the contract.
Ford was the last of the Detroit Three automakers to reach a new contract with Unifor.
Union president Jerry Dias has said all the North American automakers have promised to pump more than $1.5 billion into their Canadian operations.
Investment in the Canadian operations was the union’s top priority and Dias says the promised money will revitalize Canada’s auto sector.
Automotive expert Tony Faria cautioned last week that the investments don’t create new jobs or new facilities — they only stem the loss of existing jobs and facilities…
