How retirees can use TFSAs to save on tax
– moneysense.ca
The Tax-free Savings Account or TFSA is in my view the single most powerful investment tax shelter available to Canadian investors. Young people should move heaven or earth to maximize the annual $5,500 contribution as soon as they turn 18—even if they have to solicit a “matching” contribution from their parents. For those who haven’t yet contributed, as of 2017 the cumulative TFSA room built up since the plan’s debut in 2009 will be $52,000, says KCM Wealth’s Adrian Mastracci.
Coupled with the newly expanded Canada Pension Plan, any millennials maxing their TFSAs from age 18 on will be well positioned for retirement by the time they reach the age cohort this column is aimed at.
For near-retirees and seniors already retired, the TFSA is still a potential game-changer, even though it came relatively late in the game for them. Fortunately, unlike RRSPs—to which you can no longer contribute after age 71—there is no such limitation for TFSAs. Even if you live past 100, each year you can keep adding the $5,500 come January, plus any inflation adjustments that may occur…
Some Important Advantages and Disadvantages of Payday Loans
– investitwisely.com
Payday loans have a number of advantages and disadvantages. It is an unsecured loan which has supporters and detractors alike and it is imperative for a payday loan borrower to know and analyze the pros and cons of payday loans before he proceeds to apply. Among all personal loans, it is probably the most risky because of the extremely high rate of interest. However, it is also available relatively easily. Whether it is payday loans in Edmonton or some other place in Canada, Cashco Financial is a trusted name and has years of experience in payday lending.Hence, it depends on the borrower how effectively he manages the loan and repays it without letting accumulation of a debt mound. Term loans are often preferred over short-term payday loans because these have lower rates of interest, longer time-of-maturity or tenor and bigger credit limit. They are also very flexible and have better laws and regulations. Hence, the level of transparency and awareness is greater.
Flex loans
Cashco Flex loans are installment loans which are paid periodically in small but repetitive installments…
An emergency fund is meant to be there in times of need, but a new survey suggests nearly half of Canadian homeowners would be ill prepared for a personal financial dilemma such as job loss.
ACE Aviation to wind up by mid-2017 after distributing final $6.7 million cash
– canadianbusiness.com
MONTREAL – ACE Aviation Holdings, the former parent company of Air Canada, says it expects to wind up its operations in the first half of 2017.
The Montreal-based firm says its only remaining assets, about $6.7 million of cash, should be distributed to shareholders before it dissolves.
It distributed $12 million in June as part of a voluntary liquidation process approved by the Quebec Superior Court in 2012.
Created in 2004 following Air Canada’s emergence from creditor protection, ACE Aviation held the airline’s business units.
Loyalty program Aeroplan (TSX:AIM) was spun off in June 2005, followed by Jazz air service in February 2006 and Air Canada (TSX:AC) in November 2006.
Maintenance and overhaul operations were sold in late 2007.
The moves and sale of assets resulted in the distribution of more than $4.5 billion of proceeds to shareholders.
