US gas prices hold steady despite production cut
– canadianbusiness.com
CAMARILLO, Calif. – The average price of regular grade gasoline is unchanged nationally over the last two weeks, holding steady at $2.20 a gallon.
Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that refiners have had little time to react to last week’s announcement by major oil-producing countries to slash output. Many retailers have yet to see big price increases.
Lindberg says to expect higher prices after OPEC’s decision to cut production. She says prices may fall if financial markets don’t believe the cuts will stick.
Gas in San Diego was the highest in the continental United States at $2.69 a gallon on average on Friday. The low average was in Houston at $1.91 a gallon.

Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week
– canadianbusiness.com
TORONTO – Five things to watch this week in Canadian business:
Pipe Dreams: There are expectations that a pipeline charm offensive in British Columbia could heat up this week. Alberta Premier Rachel Notley has said she will head to B.C. as early as this week to plead her case for the Trans Mountain expansion. The project has sparked fierce protests, particularly in the Vancouver area.
Interest Rate Announcement: On Wednesday, the Bank of Canada will make its latest interest rate announcement. Since July 2015, the trend-setting rate has been set at 0.5 per cent. It’s widely expected to remain on hold, but observers will be looking carefully at the announcement for clues on the state of the economy.
Retail Earnings: As the busy Christmas shopping season enters its final weeks, we will get a good look at how some of Canada’s retailers are faring. Hudson’s Bay, Sears, Dollarama and Lululemon are among those reporting quarterly results.
Big Banks: The Bank of Montreal will issue its fourth-quarter and full-year results on Tuesday, wrapping up the parade of financial reports from Canada’s big banks…

How many stocks should I own?
How many do you own?
Those are investing questions that I receive often.
I’ll tackle those questions again today along with this new one from a reader.
“Hi, I’m moving towards a dividend portfolio, have enjoyed your site. I was curious if/how you review your dividend stocks to determine if they are still the best candidates for your portfolio. Thanks.”
Good questions readers, keep them coming. Here are my answers.
Reader: How many stocks should I own?
Probably as many as possible.
In The Investor’s Manifesto author William Bernstein wrote: “since we cannot predict in advance which stock and bond asset classes will perform the best, we diversify.”
This means investors can reduce the risks that come with individual stock ownership by owing the whole market not just a few select companies.
I do that, somewhat.
