New welcome offer for the Laurentian Bank Visa Infinite Card – Up to 8 points per dollar in the first 3 months + annual fee credit

At the start of March Laurentian Bank came out with a new offer for their Visa Infinite Card. The offer provides new approved cardholders with 8 points per dollar spent on gas, groceries, transportation and travel purchases for the first three months from account opening. The 8 points per dollar will be awarded on the first $2,000 in spending in those categories. On top of this they will provide a $130 credit which covers the first year annual fee on the card. With simple cash back redemption rates of 10,000 points to $100 that 8 points per dollar spent on the categories listed above equates to an 8% return. This is a pretty good introductory earn rate for the card but it doesn’t match the 10% on all spending we see on cards like the SimplyCash™ Preferred Card from American Express, CIBC Dividend® Visa Infinite* Card, Scotia Momentum® VISA* Infinite card or the BMO CashBack® World Elite®* MasterCard®*. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – Air Canada’s Aeroplan has been one of the most proactive, member oriented and rewarding loyalty programs during this pandemic and today’s news from them just builds on that. Aeroplan let us know that they will provide an automatic extension of Aeroplan Elite status, they are instituting an elite status jump start program and are further extending the pause on points expiry.Automatic of 2021 Aeroplan Elite StatusCurrent Aeroplan Elite status members rejoice! Your status is being extended right through to the end of 2022! This is awesome news from the program but news that wasn’t unexpected since many elite members aren’t flying as much as they did prior to COVID-19 while some aren’t flying at all given the current travel situation for Canadians. If you are flying or will be flying later on in the year and reach a higher status level you’ll get that level for the remainder of the year and for all of 2022.
