New Trade: Long Priceline ($PCLN) & Short Orbitz Worldwide ($OWW)Things remain fairly good for my tech & short stock picks. I have not done very well with my latest pick though and will be closing it out this morning. I had opened Long TripAdvisor (TRIP) and short Pandora (P) but TRIP had a very difficult week. It now stands at -23%. Why? It warned that the current quarter was going to come in worse than expected sending the stock down. That being said, things do remain good as my average trade this year has returned 1.84%. As always, you can see my live tech long & short trades here.
Today I’m back with a new long & short trade with two fairly familiar names.Let’s start off by looking at the numbers:

On the weekend, the Toronto Star referenced a Hamilton Spectator story about the winner of a $10.6 million lottery who managed to blow through all but $750,000 in less than a decade.
When I posted a link to the Spectator’s original story to various social media, it sparked a fair bit of commentary. I was incredulous—gobsmacked, you might say—that anyone could be so financially illiterate as to waste such a gift of early financial independence. Most of us can only dream of ever amassing that much wealth in a lifetime of hard work.
Any financial planner worth his/her salt could tell you that if you could generate a 4% investment return annually from $10 million, that’s a whopping $400,000 a year of income. Yes, a balanced portfolio of stocks and bonds could probably do better than that: perhaps 6%. On the other hand, if you really wanted to play it safe even a GIC could give you a 2% annual return: enough to spin off $200,000 a year for life, albeit gradually losing ground to inflation and being subject to the highest level of tax…

MONTREAL – A transportation analyst says delays in the first test flight of Bombardier’s new CSeries jet will likely push the plane’s entry into commercial service into early 2015.
Bombardier has delayed the inaugural flight three times. It was initially expected to fly by the end of June, then by the end of July and then delayed a “few weeks.”
The Montreal-based aircraft manufacturer (TSX:BBD.B) announced Friday that it has started low-speed taxiing, one of the last test before fight flight.
National Bank FInancial analyst Cameron Doerksen says a first flight by the end of August is possible and deliveries in 2015 seem “inevitable.”
But he says the manufacturer’s inability to correctly predict the inaugural flight suggests the CSeries entry-into-service will be in the first quarter of 2015.
Doerksen says such a delay will add costs to the overall CSeries program that will not be “overly material.”
He adds that a delay in deliveries will Bombardier Aerospace margins in 2014…
