Does TINA still apply for the stock market? Are GICs and bonds a new option for Canadian investors? + MORE Nov 1st

Like many investors, I’ve seen the media and RBC report that some $10 billion moved out of chequing, savings and mutual funds into guaranteed investment certificates (GICs) in the third fiscal quarter. I’m also well aware of the increases in bond yields. Even so, unlike some of my advisor peers,.... More »

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Three-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon will return for a 14th season with Target Chip Ganassi Racing, though he will be one of only two drivers piloting the red and white bulls-eye cars next year.
Target will go from two sponsored IndyCar entries to just one in 2015 as the retailer shifts spending to promoting its drivers. Target also sponsors Kyle Larson, who just wrapped up NASCAR’s top rookie honours in the Sprint Cup Series.
“We are just reallocating dollars, there’s no difference in anything else,” said Dan Griffis, vice-president of experiential marketing and alliances at Target. “I would put our investment in racing as the only full-time sponsor in both IndyCar and NASCAR, against any other sponsor in the sport.”
Ganassi and Target celebrated their 25th anniversary this year. The partnership began in open wheel, eventually grew to the sponsorship of two IndyCar entries, and expanded into both NASCAR as a primary sponsor and sports cars as an associate sponsor…

How to drawdown your retirement portfolio(VisualField/Getty Images)
Q: I have reached retirement. During my work career, I saved in an RRSP, TFSA and a holding company. I have read your magazine for many years and thought you may be able to provide me with a list of people that can advise me on tax efficient methods to draw from my holding company and other vehicles. My accountant is using dividend payments from the holding company and I would like to have advice on if this is the only method and/or the recommended method. I am age 66 at this time.—Bob

You can certainly pay dividends from your holding company to fund your retirement, but the key is how much should come from the corporation relative to other sources? And beyond that, which investments should you hold in which accounts?
Business income earned and subsequently retained in a corporation, like your holding company, is somewhat tax-deferred…

As part of the deal, the company has agreed to maintain current employment levels at Tim Hortons franchises across Canada and to speed up its expansion globally and in the U.S.
