The Benefits of Working With an Investment Professional (Jeffrey Mohlman) + MORE Dec 21st

Investing isn’t easy, otherwise everybody would do it. In reality, less than half of adult people in the United States ever invest at all! That’s a pretty poor total, but it stands to reason. What you need to know about the World Series of Poker(AP Photo/John Locher, File)
LAS VEGAS — If the World Series of Poker is lucky, the popularity of the Las Vegas championship’s newest event could cause a poker chip shortage.
The annual set of 68 tournaments at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino that rewards millions of dollars to the best card sharks starts Wednesday with a new event dubbed the Colossus expected to attract at least 10,000 players.
The Colossus represents the lowest buy-in in 35 years with players ponying-up $565 each to win their share of a $5 million prize pool, with the winner likely walking away with nearly $600,000.
The 45-year-old event now owned by Caesars Interactive Entertainment Inc. is also spreading the wealth for its $10,000 no-limit Texas Hold ’em main event and hosting an online tournament that will end with a live poker matchup.
The World Series of Poker drew 82,360 players last year with 10 per cent winning some of the $227.7 million in prize money.

PARIS – The world’s No. 1 luxury goods company LVMH is in talks to buy respected French newspaper Le Parisien, a purchase that would complement its other media holding, the financial daily Les Echos.
A statement issued on Tuesday by LVMH said that it was in exclusive negotiations with the Amaury Group which owns the daily Le Parisien and its sister paper Aujourd’hui en France. Amaury also owns ASO, which runs the Tour de France cycling race. It didn’t say what it was offering.
Francis Morel, chief of Les Echos group, told the daily Le Figaro that his newspaper expected a profit in 2015 after years of struggling, but “I’m convinced that remaining isolated isn’t an option.”
Le Parisien/Aujourd’hui en France, founded in 1944, has a circulation of some 378,300.

Ready to retire without a plan?Q: We are ready to retire within a few months. We are not sure how to handle our investments.
We have about $400,000 in RRSPs through the bank and a mutual fund company. We have a holding company which we purchased a cottage through. We are planning to sell our home and live at the cottage–home value about $1 million. We have no company pensions, but CPP and OAS is about $1,800 per month. My husband is selling his part of his business to his partner for $200,000, which will add to our net worth (not sure of tax implications).
Should we purchase an annuity to give us a monthly income?
We are confused.
—Joanne
A: Your net worth is an impressive $1.6 million, plus the value of your cottage, where you plan to retire. Clearly you and your husband have done well over the years, Joanne.
I can’t say the same for your accountant and your financial advisors. You have tax and retirement issues and questions that have not been addressed, despite the fact that your retirement is mere months away…
