U.S.-traded shares of JA Solar Holdings are soaring in early morning trading after its chairman and CEO offered a 20 per cent premium to take the Chinese solar power product maker private.
Baofang Jin says he will pay $9.69 for each share of the Shanghai-based company he doesn’t already own. The executive and a company he controls, Jinglong Goup Co. Ltd., have more than a 15 per cent stake in JA Solar. The preliminary, non-binding offer was detailed in a letter sent Friday to the board.
The company’s board will form a special committee of independent directors to consider the deal.
JA Solar Holdings Co. Ltd. closed at $8.08 on Thursday. The stock had slipped about 1 per cent so far this year.
