As Chinese yuan falls more, some see little cause for alarm
WASHINGTON (AP) — A free-falling Chinese currency could make China’s goods cheaper for foreigners, squeeze Western companies, discourage Chinese tourism, increase China’s exports and complicate the Federal Reserve’s decision on whether to raise American interest rates.
If the yuan keeps falling, that is.
The Chinese currency sank again Wednesday, a day after Beijing engineered the biggest one-day decline in the yuan in a decade.

China’s currency fell further Wednesday, keeping global investors on edge. The yuan slid 1.6 per cent on top of a 1.9 per cent drop engineered Tuesday by the Chinese government. The currency’s nosedive is giving investors plenty to worry about:
The risk the Chinese economy, the world’s second-biggest, is weakening even faster than expected.
The threat that a cheaper yuan poses to exports and economic growth in other countries.
The possibility that China’s move will trigger a beggar-thy-neighbour currency war.
And the prospect that it will force the Federal Reserve to rethink a widely expected U.S. interest rate hike this year — a possibility that creates uncertainties for financial markets.
