The advice from financial pros: Don’t panic over Fed hike
Wealth advisers have one word of advice for clients who worry about the potential impact of the Federal Reserve’s first interest-rate increase in nine years: Relax.
Financial pros have been counselling clients that returns on stocks, bonds and other investments aren’t necessarily destined to suffer because of a modest Fed hike.
Investment returns hinge on many factors beyond a Fed rate increase — especially because the Fed stressed that its pace of increases will be gradual and that rates will likely stay historically low in the near future. And rates on mortgages and other loans likely won’t jump right away.

Canadian dollar on cusp of its worst year ever
– theglobeandmail.com
At the current pace of decline, the Canadian dollar could set a new record loss this year, surpassing even the damage to the currency inflicted through the global financial crisis and ensuing recession.
THE CANADIAN PRESS/Frank GunnOne of Dalton McGuinty’s greatest achievements was making a political virtue of dorkiness. Ontarians elected him in 2003 on the apparent belief they were turning Queen’s Park over to the province’s oldest Boy Scout—an image from which he never shrank.
On the contrary, he and his handlers cultivated it, firm in the belief that the smiling cynicism of Mike Harris’s Progressive Conservatives had raised voter appetite for a Liberal do-gooder. So, over his next two mandates, Dalton McGuinty–Boy Premier morphed into Premier Dad, a straight-backed paternalist guiding Ontarians past crowded classrooms and marauding pit bulls.

On Thursday, Ontario Provincial Police announced criminal charges against two of McGuinty’s closest advisers over the deletion of emails in the province’s gas-plant scandal. Yet the former premier continues to fly above the wreckage, remarkably free of the sort of what-did-you-know-and-when questions other pols would face under the circumstances…
