PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Hasbro hit back Friday in a lawsuit over who owns the rights to The Game of Life, flatly denying claims by a toy inventor’s widow who says her husband created the board game and that she is owed $2 million or more in royalties.
The board game has sold more than 30 million copies and been spun off into an iPhone app, TV show, gambling and other ventures.
Lorraine Markham sued Hasbro earlier this year in federal court in Providence. She says her husband, Bill, invented the game in 1959 but that another toy inventor struck a deal with her husband and Hasbro has taken credit for it, denying her husband his legacy.
Her lawyers have said in a court filing that she plans to terminate rights to the game.

Credit card mistakes millennials are makingIt seems that cost-conscious millennials are so down on being in debt that many are avoiding credit cards altogether. But in doing so they’re missing out on the opportunity to start building a credit history, which is crucial for securing loans, renting apartments and getting the best insurance rates. These are the findings from a recent NerdWallet study, which reported that 31% of U.S. adults between the ages of 18 and 34 have never applied for any type of card. What’s more, 28% of these surveyed millennials had credit scores between 300 and 579, far below an optimal 700 that gets you the best lending rate from the banks. Bottom line: Using a credit card responsibly is one of the easiest ways to improve a low credit score.

CALGARY – Standard and Poor’s has downgraded Alberta’s credit rating on concerns of weak budgetary performances and .
The credit rating agency dropped the province’s rating one notch from AAA to AA+ while still stating it expects the province’s credit liquidity to be exceptional in the next two years.
S&P said the downgrade is based on “Alberta’s projected oil price-driven weak budgetary performances in the next two years; moderate, but rapidly rising, tax-supported debt burden; and now-average economic prospects.”
The province’s long-term issuer credit and senior unsecured debt were downgraded to AA+, as was the senior unsecured debt rating on the Alberta Capital Finance Authority.
S&P said the stable outlook of the AA+ credit rating reflects its expectations that the province will continue to have exceptional liquidity in the next two years, the real GDP will grow in 2016 and 2017, and the debt burden will remain modest…
