Gabriel Resources stock plunges amid possible setback in Romanian mine
– canadianbusiness.com
TORONTO – Gabriel Resources Ltd. shares plunged to their lowest in more than a year Monday after reports that the Romanian government may move to block the company’s Rosia Montana gold project.
The Toronto-based company (TSX:GBU) says it’s seeking clarification after reports cited the Romanian prime minister and other ministers saying the government will use an emergency procedure to halt debate of draft legislation in the two houses of parliament.
Gabriel shares were down 96 cents or 65 per cent at 51 cents on the Toronto Stock Exchange, even though the company urged markets not to read too much into the news, saying it would “advise caution in the trading of its shares.”
The stock’s previous 52-week low was $1.11.

Aramark files paperwork to take food company public for a third time
– canadianbusiness.com
Aramark Corp. has filed paperwork to take the foodservice company public for its third time.
The Philadelphia-based company first went private in 1984 to thwart a hostile takeover, then listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2001.
It was taken private for the second time in 2007, in a $6.3 billion buyout by an investment group led by then-CEO Joseph Neubauer. The group included the private equity units of Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, along with private investment firm Thomas H. Lee Partners.
Aramark did not specify the offering’s size or timing in regulatory filing Monday. It plans to use proceeds to repay debt.
The company provides food, uniforms and other services to schools, hospitals and businesses nationwide.
Aramark earned $104 million in 2012 on revenue of $13.5 billion.

Icahn ends fight for PC maker Dell days before shareholders vote on founder’s buyout offer
– canadianbusiness.com
Billionaire investor Carl Icahn is giving up his bitter takeover fight for Dell Inc. a few days before shareholders are scheduled to consider the latest buyout offer from the struggling computer maker’s founder Michael Dell.
Icahn said Monday in a letter to shareholders that he still thinks Michael Dell’s bid to take his company private undervalues the business and freezes shareholders out of any future gains. But Icahn also said it would be “almost impossible” to defeat that offer in a vote scheduled for Thursday.
Icahn and another major Dell shareholder, Southeastern Asset Management, said they won’t pursue additional efforts to defeat it.
“We therefore congratulate Michael Dell and I intend to call him to wish him good luck (he may need it),” Icahn wrote in the letter.
Michael Dell’s $24.8 billion bid to take his company private includes an offer of $13.75 per share plus a 13-cent dividend. Dell raised that bid last month after previous offers also drew strong criticism from Icahn and other major Dell Inc…
