With the House mostly fixated on Canada’s expanded military effort in Iraq, NDP Leader Tom Mulcair might have been expected to lead question period with any number of questions about the deployment he’s repeatedly said the government won’t answer. Instead, Mulcair returned to a sombre file on which myriad New Democrats—and some Liberals, to their credit—have dogged the government: the plight of missing and murdered indigenous women. Mulcair used a spate of weekend vigils across Canada as a backdrop to repeat his party’s calls for a public inquiry into the slow-motion disaster. Oct 6 Update: The Platinum Card from American Express enhancements and Double Avios on all Iberia flightsWelcome to a short week here on Rewards Canada with updates only occurring until Wednesday and no newsletter this coming Thanksgiving weekend. News, Tips & TricksOn Friday I got this letter from American Express highlighting some minor enhancements to the Platinum Card. Essentially you can now redeem your annual $200 travel credit online at americanexpress.ca/travel plus they mention the newly opened Amex Centurion Lounge in New York La Guardia airport. This is third lounge in the U.S. after Las Vegas and Dallas. San Francisco and Miami are in line for later this year and early in 2015. You can find out more about these lounges here. Not mentioned in the letter but on the rediscoverplatinum.ca webiste is the addition of two new Plaza Premium lounges to the Amex program, one in London and the other in Abu Dhabi. While these are enhancements they still don’t make up for the losses seen earlier this year with the removal of the Cathay Pacific Marco Polo elite status and access to American/US Airways lounges…
