When it comes to selecting the best credit card rewards program for you and your lifestyle, there are two major considerations to take into account:
Reward options
One of the first things to look for in a rewards credit card is whether it offers the experiences and items that you really want. You’re more likely to find them in a card with a rich rewards catalogue.
The MBNA Rewards Platinum Plus Mastercard* is a prime example. When you use this card for everyday purchases, you collect valuable points you can redeem toward anything on the MBNA Rewards website, including travel, brand-name merchandise, gift cards, cash back and even charitable donations…
Buy or gift Aeroplan Points with up to a 100% bonus

Aeroplan has come out with another buy or gift points promotion where you can earn up to a 100% bonus. This tiered offer sees bonuses ranging up to 100% depending on how many points you buy. This offer runs until July 20 2022 and allows members to buy up to 500,000 points per transaction up to the annual limit of 1 million points. If you buy points at the 100% level your cost on each point is 1.75 cents (C$) each before taxes. Since we value Aeroplan points at a minimum of 1.5 cents each you would think it wouldn’t make sense to buy them 1.75 cents each but over the past year or so we have shown Aeroplan redemption examples of 4.35 cents to over 6 cents per point in value. In those cases where you can extract 2 cents per points or more in value it can make sense to buy points as you would end up saving some cash on your trips!Offer details:Receive up to a 100% bonus when buy Aeroplan points online. Here’s your Rewards Canada update! Your near daily dose of loyalty program, credit card and travel news, bonuses, deals and more. Sometime over the past month or so there were some changes to the Laurentian Bank Visa Infinite Card. It no longer has a welcome bonus offer (the 8x points) or first year annual fee waiver. They have also reduced the pre-authorized debit earn rate from 3 points per dollar to 2. I’m not entirely sure when the earn rate change happened as I don’t check on this card as often as others but thought I would pass it along nonetheless.
