 With American Express’ current offers on their Aeroplan cards you’ll see that they have moved away from offering the bonus Buddy Pass we had seen for most of 2021 to now offering bonus Aeroplan points for Air Canada, Air Canada Vacations, hotels, and car rental purchases. Aeroplan’s has come out with another buy or gift points promotion where you can earn up to an 85% bonus. This tiered offer sees bonuses ranging from 50% to 85% dependent on how many points you buy. This offer runs until May 20, 2022 and allows members to buy up to 500,000 points per transaction up to the annual limit of 1 million points. If you buy 5,000 to 19,000 points you’ll earn a 50% bonus, 20,000 to 45,000 points will earn a 60% bonus, 50,000 to 60,000 you’ll get a 70% bonus and 70,000+ will earn the 85%.  If you buy points at the 85% level your cost on each point is 1.89 cents (C$) each before taxes. Since we value Aeroplan points at a minimum of 1.5 cents each you would think it wouldn’t make sense to buy them 1.89 cents each but over the past year or so we have shown Aeroplan redemption examples of 4.35 cents to over 6 cents per point in value. Both of them are experiencing the same issues many of you have reached out to us before – the lack of points posting. JN emailed to tell us she has not seen any points at all post to her account since the switch to Scene+ while and MS messaged us on Facebook with the exact same issue – not one point has posted to his account since December. MS did tell us that Scotia said the points should be reflected on his June statement so let’s hope that happens as we’ve heard many promised dates over the past 6 months from Scotia that have come and gone without a fix…
