Air Canada Aeroplan delaying the introduction of revenue based points earning on flights
– RewardsCanada.ca
When the new Aeroplan program launched nearly a year ago one of the changes they announced that was set to come this year has now been put on the back burner. That change was the move to a full on revenue based points accrual system for Air Canada flights and partner flights ticketed by Air Canada. The airline let us know this morning that this planned late 2021 change will now not occur until at least the end of 2022. This means the current Aeroplan point earn structure will remain in place for at least 12-13 months if not longer. Here is what Air Canada told us:We have decided to pause this transition, in large part due to a myriad of factors centered around the impacts of COVID-19 – more specifically: Evolving customer needs and preferences as we exit the pandemic.New, high-priority projects to ensure a simplified travel experience for customers as a result of COVID-related travel restrictions and requirements. The current structure is a pseudo-distance and revenue based points earning system…Receive a 45% bonus when you buy Marriott Bonvoy Points
– RewardsCanada.ca
A buy points bonus for Marriott Bonvoy has returned and this time it is a 45% bonus across the board. The bonus is awarded on purchases from 2,000 to 100,000 points and that 100,000 is a doubling of the typical 50,000 point annual limit for buying points. With a 45% bonus you end up buying points for 0.86 US cents each – higher than the ~0.7 cents (or about 1 cent C$) we typically value Bonvoy points at but you have to remember that 0.7 is our minimum. There are many examples of where you can redeem points and get a per point value well above 1 cent, 2 cents or even at 3 cents a piece. Ultimately do the math to see if it makes sense for you to buy points – don’t just buy them because there is bonus. Also you will now need to take into consideration Marriott’s move to dynamic pricing next year, there is the possibility we will not see those redemption options at 2 or 3 cents anymore. However only time will tell. The promotion this also includes a 10% discount for members globally who purchase points with a China UnionPay credit card (starting with digits 62) when they buy 2,000 or more points…Here are the latest RBC Offers including a Mastermind Toys $5 statement credit, bonus Petro-Points and more
