June 1 Update: When earning 5x points isn't the same as earning 5x points - a loyalty lesson, more TD card offers extended & SiriusXM Amex offerHere’s your Rewards Canada Daily update! Your daily dose (or near daily dose) of loyalty program, credit card and travel news, bonuses, deals and more. This update is brought to you by the HSBC World Elite Mastercard which is currently offering a welcome bonus of up to 70,000 bonus points and no annual fee in the first year!  There are several credit cards in Canada that award 5x points on purchases at select merchants but surprisingly those 5x points aren’t all equal. We’ve updated our very popular article When earning 5x points isn’t the same as earning 5x points – a loyalty lesson as the negative changes from BMO kicked in last month and now we have the positive change from American Express that happened yesterday. Read that post here!Image via BMO/Twitter —Yesterday we let you know that TD extended the current welcome bonus on the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card but the bank also extended the 50,000 point + Buddy Pass offer on the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card as well as the 6% cash back offer with first year free on the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite* Card and the 60,000 point + first year free offer on the TD® First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card…

Offer Extended - $0 companion fare + 350 WestJet dollars with the WestJet RBC World Elite MastercardSimilar to what we saw from TD and Aeroplan RBC and WestJet have extended the offers on their co-brand credit cards. Namely, the $0 companion voucher offer on the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard has been extended to June 30 from May 31. The card also retains its 350 dollar bonus on first purchase and the 2x dollars on select purchases. The base level WestJet RBC Mastercard also continues with its increased welcome offer of 100 WestJet dollars. Here are details of the extended offers:WestJet RBC World Elite MastercardA very healthy 350 WestJet dollars after first purchase plus 2x the WestJet dollars on groceries, restaurants and food delivery for the first 3 months is the new offer for this card. This means you’ll earn a 3% return for each dollar you spend in those categories instead of 1.5%. I like this welcome offer as you only have to spend $1 to get that initial welcome bonus of 350 WestJet dollars and you don’t have to stress about meeting any minimum spend requirements. You can simply go out and buy your groceries, support your local restaurants and have your food delivered and earn those 2x dollars – doesn’t matter whether you spend $50 or $5,000 in the span of those 3 months…

Top 5 Credit Card Sign Up offers for June - These cards provide the most value out of their welcome bonuses Here are the Rewards Canada Top 5 Travel Credit Card Sign Up offers for the month of June 2021! This is not a ‘best’ credit card list like our Top Travel Rewards Credit Card rankings but instead a look at cards that have very good acquisition (welcome/sign up) offers. As always when choosing a card you should always take other factors into account other than the just sign up bonus, but when some of these cards are first year free, they can and do pay off even when you grab them strictly for the sign up rewards. This month we see three first year free cards on the list The same five cards are on the list this month as last month however we have now adjusted our minimum valuation of Aeroplan points to 1.5 cents each from the previous 1.2 cents. This puts the minimum value of the welcome bonus for the TD and CIBC Aeroplan cards on the list to $600. That is, $300 worth of points and $300 for the Buddy Pass. The Amex Aeroplan card jumps to $405. Now remember that’s a minimum valuation, for example if you choose to convert the Buddy Pass to Aeroplan points you’ll get 30,000 points which makes the entire welcome bonus for either of the TD or CIBC Aeroplan cards hit $750!Editor’s Note:As travel is curtailed right now these offers are more forward looking and can and should be used towards your long term travel plans – whether that’s later this year, next year or even beyond…
