Wow three months sure do fly by! It feels just like yesterday when the increased sign up offer on the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit from American Express launched but alas it was not. In fact it has almost been three months and the offer will wrap up next week on October 18th. If you don’t have the card yet this may be the time to get it. Sure you may be thinking that SPG won’t be around much longer and will be merged in some fashion with Marriott Rewards. That won’t happen however until late 2018 or even sometime into 2019. Add into to picture that the Chase Marriott Premier Visa card is no longer available you only have this card as option to earn Starpoints or Marriott Rewards points since you can convert at a 1:3 ratio respectively. This gives you at least a year to use the card to earn either SPG or Marriott Rewards points not to mention the ability to score 25,000 Starpoints with the current increased sign up bonus, which by all accounts should drop to 20,000 on October 19th (or potentially lower since the card has had lower sign up offers before, we just don’t know yet) Those 25,000 Starpoints are very worthwhile to redeem for Starwood stays (free nights start as low as 3,000 points or you can convert them to programs like Aeroplan or British Airways and get 30,000 miles/Avios for the 25K or convert to Marriott to get 75,000 Marriott Rewards points…October 12 Update: Canadian Points University to be held Nov 3/4 in YYC, WestJet partners with Chopped Leaf, 15% off Hertz rentals
