In honour of the Toronto International Film Festival’s debut tomorrow (Sept. 10, 2015), I thought it appropriate to highlight a real estate story that involves film celebrities. And nothing fascinates us more than stars with cash problems. While cash-flow crunches happen to the best of us, it’s always shocking to discover that people who make millions each year also face financial problems.
Here are 5 film celebrities who faced either a foreclosure, a fire sale or a property price cut in the last decade.

1) Mel Gibson
Amidst his ongoing legal battles, Mr. Gibson’s real estate portfolio has taken quite a hit. The first property to run into issues was his 75-acre estate in Greenwich, CT. The Loonie is sagging, so how can you save money when making purchases in USD?With the Loonie hitting lows that we haven’t seen in many many years one question that has popped up several times in our email is how can you save some money if you are travelling to the U.S. or doing online shopping from U.S. retailers. Some tips that I have seen others provide include getting a U.S. Dollar credit card issued by a Canadian bank and/or opening U.S. dollar accounts with a Canadian bank. Well you have to convert your hard earned Canadian dollars into U.S. dollars to fund that bank account or to pay that U.S. dollar credit card. The only savings from the U.S. dollar credit card is that it won’t incur a foreign exchange transaction fee as you would see on most credit and charge cards in Canada (except for a couple which we mention below) If you have had a U.S. bank account for sometime there is a good chance your converted Canadian Dollars into U.S. when the exchange rate was favourable or perhaps you have a source of U…

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – An American man was told he could make $18,000 for marrying a Chinese woman who needed a green card, so he agreed to get hitched at a California wedding studio and then took an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas where he posed in photos with his new wife.
But the man was gay and vacationing with his boyfriend, while the woman already had a husband. Until he revealed his sexual orientation to an immigration officer during a green card interview, both couples had been caught up in an elaborate marriage fraud scheme that has netted organizers $3.5 million since 2006, authorities say.
Federal authorities on Wednesday arrested Jason Shiao, a 65-year-old Southern California man they say posed as an attorney, and his 43-year-old daughter, Lynn Leung, on charges of conspiring to commit visa fraud by arranging phoney marriages between Chinese citizens seeking legal residency and American spouses.
Authorities also charged Shannon Mendoza, 48, with recruiting Americans hard-pressed for cash for the scheme…
