October 2 Update: Alaska Airlines & American Airlines gut partnership, more confirmed American Express Multiplier Locations & get elite status with a paid airline membershipAlaska Airlines and American Airlines are gutting a major portion of their frequent flyer partnership. Effective March 1, 2020 you will not be able to redeem miles from either program for award flights on the other airlines, ie redeeming Mileage Plan miles for flights on American. You will however still be able to earn miles, albeit in a limited fashion, on the other airline’s flights. Lounge access for each airline’s elite or lounge club members will remain intact as well. Learn more about these changes here. What’s changing, effective March 1, 2020:You will no longer earn Mileage Plan miles on American Airlines international flights.You will no longer be able to redeem miles for award travel on American Airlines domestic or international flights.
