Choppy trading likely this week amid heavy slate of earnings, economic data
– canadianbusiness.com
TORONTO – The Toronto stock market is in for more choppy trading this week amid a heavy slate of earnings and economic data and an investment climate without massive stimulus from the U.S. Federal Reserve.
“It’s just going to be a flood of news coming out,” said Colin Cieszynski, chief market strategist at CMC Markets.
“It will be interesting to see (if) the markets can build on that. (Or) are the markets just going to top out again and come back down?”
Traders will digest the latest reading on U.S. manufacturing and factory orders and find out if the European Central Bank plans more stimulus aimed at staving off recession in the eurozone. Canadian data includes manufacturing shipments.
And at the end of the week, employment data for the U.S. and Canada will be released.
Meanwhile, it’s a heavy week for earnings, with reports from heavyweights including Talisman Energy (TSX:TLM), TransCanada Corp. (TSX:TRP), Enbridge (TSX:ENB), insurers Sun Life (TSX:SLF) and Great-West Lifeco (TSX:GWO), Tim Horton’s (TSX:THI), Air Canada (TSX:AC…

Short-Term Savings Options That Work For Us
– myownadvisor.ca
I spend a bunch of time thinking and reading about personal finance and investing. One of the things that recently crossed my mind are options available to savers regarding short-term savings. Depending upon your financial goals, there are a number of products that can help you with your short-term savings. Other products on the other hand don’t warrant any attention, at least from us. For today’s post here are the options we gravitate to; why we prefer these short-term savings options and the reasons we avoid others.
Option # 1 – Chequing account
We use our chequing account for everyday expenses and above a certain threshold, we move any money saved to a savings account.
Pros
