Buying a home can and is, expensive. We know. We are home-moaners ourselves. It was the biggest financial decision of our life and probably always will be. That makes saving for your home or condo purchase an expensive and important task.
Effective June 1st this year, the mortgage loan insurance premium for homebuyers (via the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation) with less than a 10% down payment increased by approximately 15%. This basically means if you don’t have a sizeable down payment, you’ll pay more in mortgage loan insurance to protect lenders against your mortgage default: the higher the percentage of the total house price/value that you borrow, the higher percentage you will pay in insurance premiums.
So, it goes without saying I guess, if you want to be a homeowner you should at least come up with a modest down payment otherwise homeownership is not for you, financially, at least not right now…

Frankfurt exchange operator Deutsche Boerse buying foreign exchange trading platform 360T
– canadianbusiness.com
BERLIN – Frankfurt stock exchange operator Deutsche Boerse AG says it is buying foreign exchange trading platform 360T for 725 million euros ($796 million).
Deutsche Boerse said Sunday that it plans to finance the acquisition of 360T using a combination of debt and equity, a route aimed at minimizing any impact on its credit rating. It says 360T, which is based in Frankfurt and whose customers include corporate clients and banks, has seen double-digit annual revenue growth since it was founded in 2000.
The deal requires approval from competition and supervisory authorities.

B.C. finance minister heads to Malaysia to discuss Petronas LNG deal
– canadianbusiness.com
VICTORIA – British Columbia’s finance minister is travelling to Malaysia to discuss a $36 billion liquefied natural gas project in the province’s northwest.
Michael de Jong will meet with officials over the next six days to discuss the ratification of a project agreement with Pacific Northwest LNG, a consortium led by Malaysia energy giant Petronas.
The province passed legislation this week that allowed it to enter into an agreement with the consortium to build an LNG export terminal near Prince Rupert.
The Opposition New Democrats voted against the legislation, which protects Pacific Northwest LNG from targeted tax increases for 25 years.
The project would be the largest private investment in B.C. history, creating 4,500 construction jobs and generating $8.6 billion in taxes and revenues by 2030.
The B.C. government estimates that travel and accommodation for the minister and his chief of staff will cost about $7,900.
