Boeing wins delay in duty ruling on petition against Bombardier CSeries

Bombardier will have to wait an extra two months to find out if its CSeries commercial jets will be hit by punishing U.S. duties.
The U.S. Commerce Department on Wednesday granted Boeing’s request to delay its preliminary determination on the aircraft giant’s petition until Sept. 25 from July 21.
A final determination is still expected later this year.
In April, Boeing petitioned the U.S. Commerce Department and U.S. International Trade Commission, alleging that the Montreal company has been selling CSeries planes in the U.S. below cost thanks to public subsidies in violation of trade rules.
Bombardier (TSX:BBD.B) has rejected the allegations and argued that their CSeries planes never competed with Boeing in a key sale to Delta Airlines.
Boeing said respondents such as Bombardier have been granted several extensions and that the complexity of the financial support provided to Bombardier requires that the investigation take more time.
“It is important that the department have sufficient time to investigate each of these subsidies thoroughly,” Boeing wrote in its letter…

Loonie soars on hawkish BoC comments, as financials help lead TSX gainers

The Canadian dollar surged to a four-month high today amid a hawkish tone on interest rates by Bank of Canada governor Stephen Poloz.
The loonie jumped 0.74 of a U.S. cent to an average price of 76.57 cents US.
The currency’s ascent helped send financials stocks higher, with that sector leading gainers on the Toronto’s S&P/TSX composite index, which climbed 74.36 points to 15,355.58.
It was a similarly positive day in New York as the Dow Jones industrial average gained 143.95 points to 21,454.61. The S&P 500 index added 21.31 points to 2,440.69 and the Nasdaq composite index was ahead 87.79 points to 6,234.41.
In commodities, the August crude contract advanced 50 cents at US$44.74 per barrel and the August natural gas contract was up three cents at US$3.09 per mmBTU.
The August gold contract gained $2.20 to US$1,249.10 an ounce and the September copper contract climbed a penny at US$2.68 a pound.

Meal-kit delivery company Blue Apron on Wednesday slashed the price it expects to sell its shares in an initial public offering, a sign that it may be having trouble attracting investors.
The price chop for Blue Apron’s IPO comes as competition to deliver groceries heats up.
Blue Apron already has many meal kit competitors, including HelloFresh and Plated, which ship boxes to customer’s doorsteps with all the raw ingredients needed to make home-cooked meals. E-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc. is expected to shakeup the industry after announcing plans to buy organic grocer Whole Foods earlier this month. And Amazon already sells meal kits in some cities with recipes created by media mogul and TV cook Martha Stewart.
Blue Apron said that it now expects its IPO to be between $10 and $11 per share, down from its forecast a week ago between $15 and $17. The New York company still expects to sell 30 million shares, raising as much as $330 million in its IPO under the new range. That’s down from the $510 million it would have raised at the high end of its previous IPO range…
