U.S. stocks closed higher Monday as traders looked ahead to a busy week for corporate earnings. The subdued trading followed the best week for the market this year.
On Monday:
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 47.37 points, or 0.3 per cent, to close at 17,131.86.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index added 2.57 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 2,017.46.
The Nasdaq composite rose 8.17 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 4,838.64.
For the year:
The Dow is down 691.21 points, or 3.8 per cent.
The S&P 500 index is down 41.44 points, or 2.1 per cent.
The Nasdaq is up 102.59 points, or 2.2 per cent.
