These Are the Red Flags Every Student Landlord Should Know
– investitwisely.com
As a landlord, you’ll receive a lot of rental applications from students who want to stay off-campus for more privacy and convenience. This is more likely if your property is located near a university or college. For most landlords student tenants spark a nightmarish image of noisy parties, irresponsible lifestyle, loud and constant complaints, late payments, and generally unruly behaviours that lead to property damage. Consequently, many landlords avoid and refuse to let out their property to them.
But these impressions are not always correct, a recent survey by a leading insurance provider showed that compared to tenants in full-time employment, student tenants are more pliable and account for 10% claims. Still, you have to be wary when renting to a student to be sure your new tenant is a reliable and responsible one.
Getting a good landlord insurance policy is a surefire guarantee to protect yourself in the event of property damage or financial loss resulting from it.
Here are a few red flags you should note when discussing tenancy with a prospective student tenant…
Wells Fargo claws back part of CEO, other executive’s salary
– canadianbusiness.com
WASHINGTON – Wells Fargo says CEO John Stumpf and the executive who ran the bank’s retail banking division will forfeit tens of millions of dollars in bonuses as the bank tries to stem a scandal over its sales practices.
The board of directors at the nation’s second-largest bank said Tuesday that Stumpf will forfeit $41 million in stock awards, while former retail banking executive Carrie Tolstedt will forfeit $19 million of her stock awards, effective immediately. Both are also giving up any bonuses for 2016, and Tolstedt will not receive any severance or any other compensation in connection with her retirement, the bank’s directors said.
The San Francisco-based bank’s independent directors are also launching their own investigation, hiring the law firm Shearman & Sterling to assist them.
In their announcement, Wells Fargo’s independent directors said the pay clawbacks did not preclude the board from pursuing more salary clawbacks from Stumpf or Tolstedt…

3 Legislature seats filled for possible Vegas stadium vote
– canadianbusiness.com
RENO, Nev. – Three northern Nevadans, including a former Stanford University football player, were appointed Tuesday to fill vacant seats in the state Legislature for an anticipated special session to consider raising hotel room taxes in the Las Vegas area to help pay for a $1.9 billion NFL stadium that could attract the Oakland Raiders to the city.
All three said after the Washoe County Commission approved their interim status that they have no preconceived notions about how they’ll vote during the special session Gov. Brian Sandoval expects to call in the coming weeks.
The current informal proposal on the table would tax only hotel guests in Las Vegas and Clark County, with no direct impact on Washoe County, Reno or Sparks. But critics fear that in the event of revenue shortfalls, the burden could fall to all Clark County taxpayers or, potentially, taxpayers statewide
