MONTREAL _ SNC-Lavalin has selected former top federal bureaucrat Kevin Lynch as its new chairman.
The Montreal-based engineering and construction firm (TSX:SNC) says Lynch will take over on Jan. 1, replacing Lawrence Stevenson who is retiring.
Lynch was elected a company director and appointed vice-chairman last May.
He has been vice-chairman of BMO Financial Group since 2010. Prior to that he was clerk of the Privy Council, secretary to cabinet and head of the federal public service.
Stevenson joined SNC-Lavalin’s board of directors in 1999 and was appointed chairman in March 2015.

OTTAWA — Veterans across Canada are praying that the Trudeau government will deliver more than a lump of coal when it rolls out its long-awaited plan for providing pensions to injured ex-soldiers.
Veterans Affairs Minister Seamus O’Regan will unveil the pension scheme on Wednesday, more than two years after it was first promised during the 2015 federal election.
The Liberals were the only party to promise to re-instate lifelong pensions for disabled veterans, which were replaced by a controversial lump-sum award, career training and income-replacement programs in 2006.

The commitment was in direct response to widespread complaints from veterans that the new benefits, known collectively as the New Veterans Charter, amounted to far less financial assistance than the old pensions.
Yet there are widespread fears that the Liberals’ plan, which is being announced after the House of Commons has risen and only days before Christmas, will fall far short of expectations and leave many veterans in the cold…

TORONTO _ Great Canadian Gaming Corp. and Clairvest Group Inc. have been chosen to operate and develop four Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. facilities west of Toronto.
Shares in Great Canadian (TSX:GC) gained more than 10 per cent following the announcement, trading up $4.23 at $34.12 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Great Canadian and Clairvest and will develop and operate OLG Casino Brantford, OLG Slots at Mohawk Racetrack, OLG Slots at Flamboro Downs and OLG Slots at Grand River Raceway.
The deal gives them the exclusive right to operate the assets for a minimum of 20 years. The facilities have a combined total of over 2,500 slot machines, approximately 60 table games and employ more than 1,400 staff.
Great Canadian will own 55 per cent of the partnership and run the operations, while Clairvest, a private equity firm, will hold the remaining 45 per cent.
In August, Great Canadian and Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU.UN) won a bid to run OLG Slots at Woodbine, OLG Slots at Ajax Downs and the Great Blue Heron Casino located in the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation…
