LAS VEGAS, Nev. – A new poll finds most Democrats consider income inequality a very important issue and half of them think tougher regulations of the financial markets imposed after the 2008 financial crisis did not go far enough. The poll comes as Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders enter a crucial stretch for the party’s nomination.
The poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research suggests support within the party for Sanders’ calls to increase regulations on Wall Street banks and address wide gaps between the nation’s wealthy and poor.
The poll found that most Democrats — and Republicans — support increasing the federal minimum wage, although they favour more incremental steps backed by Clinton.
Clinton and Sanders are vying for support in Nevada, which holds its Democratic caucuses Saturday.

Iran seeks $45B in foreign investment

– canadianbusiness.com

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran’s economy minister says his country is seeking $45 billion in foreign investment following the implementation of a landmark nuclear deal with world powers last month.
Ali Tayebnia told reporters Saturday that Iran expects $15 billion in direct foreign investment alone in the next Iranian calendar that begins March 20.
The historic agreement brought about the lifting of international sanctions last month after the U.N. certified that Iran has met all its commitments to curb its nuclear activities under last summer’s accord.
Iran expects an economic breakthrough after the lifting of sanctions, which will allow it to access overseas assets and sell crude oil more freely.

LONDON – Prime Minister David Cameron says a historic deal agreed by all 28 European Union leaders gives the U.K. “special status in Europe.” The agreement, won after two days of wrangling in Brussels, makes changes in four areas where Britain sought a less intrusive relationship with the bloc. Here are the key points:
A LEVEL ECONOMIC PLAYING FIELD
Britain sought, and got, protections for it and the other eight EU countries that don’t use the euro single currency. The leaders’ agreement says moves by the 19 eurozone countries to bring their economies closer together are voluntary for the other member states, and stresses that businesses in non-eurozone countries must not face disadvantages within the EU’s single market.
The deal also says financial regulation in non-eurozone countries is a matter for those countries’ own authorities — a guarantee Cameron had sought for the Bank of England. Non-eurozone countries can also seek a debate in the EU if they think eurozone economic measures are a problem…
