PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Lords a-leaping is the U.S. economy slow to recover!
The cost of 10 lords a-leaping increased 3 per cent over last year, but nine of the other 12 gifts listed in the carol “The Twelve Days of Christmas” stayed the same price as last year, according to the 32nd annual PNC Wealth Management Christmas Price Index released Monday.

PNC decided to adjust the historic prices of turtle doves and swans after realizing the prices quoted by vendors didn’t reflect the birds’ overall value on the open market over the years.
“The headline, I think, is that inflation in this economy, with the sort of tepid recovery we’ve seen, is almost nonexistent,” said Jim Dunigan, chief investment officer of PNC’s asset management group…

TORONTO – The Canadian Bankers Association warned the former Conservative government that a proposal to have banks shoulder more of the risk associated with home mortgage loans could hurt the country’s financial stability.

“As the CMHC explores options to reduce the federal government’s exposure to the housing market, we would like to ensure that any changes made to the housing finance system are done so with a complete understanding of their implications on the housing and mortgage markets,” reads the letter, dated Aug. 6, 2014.
Homebuyers with less than a 20 per cent down payment are required to get mortgage default insurance — either from CMHC or one of the private mortgage insurers — when borrowing from a bank. The insurance covers the banks in cases where borrowers default on their loans…
