TORONTO – Canada’s largest stock market got the week off to a positive start this morning, with resource companies leading the way.
The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index rose 143.30 points to 13,891.88.
Most of the TSX subindexes were up, led by mining and energy stocks.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 110.22 points at 17,645.54, the broader S&P 500 composite index advanced 12.80 points to 2,059.41 and the Nasdaq composite gained 38.15 points to 4,755.83.
The Canadian dollar was at 77.56 cents US, up 0.25 of a cent from Friday’s close at 77.31 cents US.
The June crude contract was up $1.24 at US$47.45 per barrel and June natural gas was down 5.6 cents at US$2.04 mmBTU.
The June gold contract rose $2.80 to US$1,275.50 an ounce and July copper contracts rose 1.5 cents to US$2.09 a pound.
