A bunion is a bony bump that develops on the inside of the foot, on the joint at the base of the big toe. A bunion forms when the bone at the base of the big toe turns outward, causing the big toe to point inward. This movement forced the joint to stick out, resulting in a noticeable bump on the side of the foot. Because tight or even proper fitting shoes cannot accommodate the protrusion, constant pressure is put on the joint, leading to pain and discomfort.
