The company says it has received financial support from all three levels of government, including a $60 million loan from the province and an $8-million loan from Ottawa.
By 2019, Medicago expects to employ 200 people who will work at a 44,000 square metre facility at the Estimauville innovation park, in addition to 180 already in the city.
The company says the new complex will have the capacity to deliver between 40 million and 50 million doses of seasonal flu vaccines and will include its corporate offices and research and development activities.

Unlock tax deductions with investment expenses (Alex Slobodkin/Getty Images)Congratulations! You made it through another tax season. But it may not be over yet. As you sip your favorite summer beverage on the deck to celebrate, Canada Revenue Agency is quietly scanning your return looking for red flags that can trigger an audit. And one of the most common red flags is an improper claim for investment expenses.
It’s absolutely worth taking the time to claim your investment expenses—if it’s done properly, you can save thousands of dollars in taxes each year. But it’s pretty complicated and you have to do it correctly, or you could get into hot water. Read on and I’ll take you through the process of making the most common claims.
What are investment expenses anyway? There are two main types of investment expenses that can be claimed. The first is the most obvious: you can claim some—but not all—of the direct costs associated with investing, including some of the fees you pay your investment counsel or accountant for helping you with your taxes…

Municipal study sees looming housing problem
– macleans.ca
OTTAWA – The country has a looming housing problem that is going to require action from all levels of government, according to a new report from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
The study says the long, steady decline in federal subsidies for social housing has left provinces, territories and municipalities struggling against market forces that are making it increasingly difficult for low- and modest-income renters.
“With 850,000 lower-rent units lost in the last decade, our rental sector is ill prepared for any downturn in the housing market,” Brad Woodside, the president of the FCM, says in the introduction to the study.
“One in five renters pays more than 50 per cent of their income on housing.”
The report notes that existing social housing stock was created under a partnership involving all orders of government, but as Ottawa unilaterally opts out of renewal agreements, cash-strapped provinces and cities are unable to properly maintain the properties…
