NEW YORK, N.Y. – A judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the ex-wife of billionaire hedge fund manager Steven Cohen that had alleged he lied about his worth to cheat her out of millions of dollars during their divorce decades ago.
The judge said Patricia Cohen had failed to prove her claim that her former husband and his brother, his accountant at the time, had understated the value of a real estate transaction during their divorce, which was finalized in 1990. Patricia Cohen had alleged that her husband hid more than $5 million from the 1986 real estate deal.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge Loretta Preska, in Manhattan, said that there was no evidence Steven Cohen had hidden any assets and that the statute of limitations for Patricia Cohen’s claims had expired because the claim would’ve needed to be filed within six years from the date a fraud occurred or two years from when she found out about it.
Steven Cohen, who lives on a sprawling estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, is one of the highest-profile figures in American finance and one of the country’s richest men…

CIBC releases iPhone app to apply for a mortgage(CNW Group/CIBC)
If you’re not a fan of heading to your bank branch to apply for a mortgage, CIBC has got a solution for you: just tap your iPhone.
CIBC’s new Hello Home app, available in the App Store, allows you to apply for a mortgage without ever meeting another human being. You’ll still need to submit the usual financial documents, of course, but this can be done by taking a photo of them through the app. When you have a question or problem, you can use the in-app messaging function to talk to a mortgage specialist. All of this, CIBC reassures, is secure.
Understanding how mortgage payments work »
Users will be offered “special in-app mortgage rates” and you don’t need to be a CIBC customer to apply.
CIBC’s mortgage app will certainly eliminate the time it takes to visit a bank branch and fill out paperwork, but Hello Home won’t actually speed up your mortgage approval process. That approval will still take about a week (sometimes longer) and, according to CIBC’s FAQ page for Hello Home, still goes through the same verification checks as a regular CIBC mortgage application process…

RIO DE JANEIRO – Former Brazilian energy minister Pedro Parente has been named by acting President Michel Temer as the new CEO of state-run oil giant Petrobras.
Parente was picked Thursday to replace Aldemir Bendine, an appointee of now suspended President Dilma Rousseff. The new Petrobras CEO was working as chairman of Sao Paulo-based financial bourse BM&FBovespa.
Parente served in a number of positions under President Fernando Henrique Cardoso. He is widely known to Brazilians as the “blackout minister,” due to his efforts during energy rationing in 2001. He has worked for private organizations since Rousseff’s Workers’ Party first won the presidency in 2003.
Petrobras is the epicenter of a sprawling corruption scandal that has rocked Brazilian politics and economy since 2014. Parente is the company’s third CEO in less than 16 months.
