The majority of soon-to-be newlyweds (67%)  are postponing their wedding for financial reasons, a new survey for BMO has found. That compares to just 31% of recently married couples who had to do the same. “When you factor in everything from the rings to the venue, dress and honeymoon, getting married can be a significant financial commitment,” said BMO’s Janet Peddigrew. “An important first step for any couple thinking about getting married is to determine what kind of celebration is financially realistic.” The story of a Hamilton, Ont. bride recently went viral after she complained about a junk food gift basket she received as a gift from an acquaintance who she confronted about it. The newlyweds claimed, “weddings are to make money for the future.” Needless to say, many people don’t agree.
