Suretap expands ahead of Apple Pay’s arrivalSuretap, a mobile wallet app developed in Canada, is ramping up ahead of Apple Pay’s arrival north of the border expected later this fall.
The app, currently available to CIBC credit card customers using select Android and BlackBerry smartphones running on Rogers, Bell, Telus, Koodo and Virgin Mobile networks, allows users to pay for goods via credit or gift card simply by tapping their device anywhere contactless payments are accepted. Users can also view their transaction history and track spending via the app.
On Tuesday the company announced that Suretap has been extended to all CIBC personal and small business credit card holders. Suretap (co-owned by BCE Inc., Telus Corp. and Rogers Communications Inc., the parent company of MoneySense) also has plans to add debit cards, loyalty cards, digital coupons and deals by year’s end. Currently, Royal Bank’s RBC Wallet is the only mobile payment app that offers the option to pay via debit. The rest of the so-called “mobile wallets” listed in the chart below are only compatible with certain bank-branded credit cards and in some cases, select loyalty cards…
