Statistics Canada says the top one per cent of tax filers in Canada saw their average income climb 1.2 per cent in 2013 to $454,800.
The percentage increase was the same rate for all tax filers, while the amount of income tax paid by the top one per cent averaged $151,900, up $3,000 or two per cent from 2012.
The top one per cent earned 10.3 per cent of the total income and paid 20.3 per cent of the federal, provincial and territorial income taxes in 2013, unchanged from 2012.
Income inequality was a key issue in the federal election campaign.
The Liberals campaigned on a promise to cut income taxes for the middle class and raise them on Canadians making more than $200,000 a year.
To make the top one per cent in 2013, a Canadian needed to earn at least $222,000.
The cutoff for the top five per cent was $115,700, while $89,200 was needed to make the top 10 per cent.
Women made up 21.9 per cent of the top one per cent in 2013, up from 21.3 per cent in 2012.

HONG KONG – Britain has agreed to return 28.7 million pounds ($44.3 million) to Macau that was confiscated from a government official convicted in the Chinese enclave’s biggest corruption case.
According to a Macau government statement released Tuesday, British and Macau officials signed an agreement to repatriate the money seized in the Ao Man Long case.
Ao was a transport and public works secretary who was found guilty in three trials of taking bribes and money laundering: in 2008, 2009 and 2012.
He is the highest ranking official to ever be convicted of graft in the former Portuguese colony.
Anti-graft officials said at the time they found Ao had $100 million in assets, or 57 times more than what he and his family could have earned during his time in office.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – CBS is contemplating offering its online service CBS All Access free of ads for $10 a month, a $4 surcharge that matches what online video service Hulu charges for stripping out commercials.
CEO Les Moonves told analysts Tuesday “it’s a very possible thing for the future” to charge $9.99 for an ad-free version of the service. His statement, following the release of the company’s quarterly earnings, came just a day after CBS announced it would run a new “Star Trek” series exclusively on the online platform in 2017.
Moonves said CBS All Access had its largest subscriber growth yet in September, helped by new shows, without specifying further. He called the service “a major priority” as young people’s viewing habits increasingly shift to mobile devices and away from appointment viewing.
