Here come the ads of Super Bowl 50 – upbeat and safe
– canadianbusiness.com
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Game on. On advertising’s biggest night, Super Bowl ads are aiming for optimism.
An Audi ad will show an aging astronaut getting reinvigorated by driving an Audi to the tune of David Bowie’s “Starman.” Amy Schumer and Seth Rogan will try to unit Americans with the “Bud Light Party.” And Axe will tell teenagers to embrace their unique qualities and “Find Your Magic.”
The stakes are high, with more than 114 million people expected to tune into CBS as the Carolina Panthers duke it out with the Denver Broncos in Santa Clara, California. Forty-plus advertisers — including newcomers like Amazon and stalwarts like Anheuser-Busch — have taken a $5 million gamble for a 30-second chance to wow viewers.

Asian stock markets inch higher in holiday-thinned trading
– canadianbusiness.com
TOKYO – Asian stock markets crept higher Monday in thin holiday trading, with gains kept in check as investors fretted about a global economic slowdown after data showed U.S. employers added fewer jobs last month.
KEEPING SCORE: Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 rose 1.1 per cent to 17,004.30 while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 was flat at 4,975.40. Thailand’s SET added 0.3 per cent to 1,307.56. India’s Sensex was little changed at 24,632.26. Markets were closed in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines for Lunar New Year holidays. New Zealand’s stock market was closed for a national holiday.
US DATA: With much of Asia in holiday mode, attention focused on the discouraging U.S. employment figures for January released on Friday. U.S. employers added 151,000 jobs last month, a sharp deceleration from recent months as companies shed education, transportation and temporary workers. That was below economists’ forecasts of 185,000 new jobs, according to a survey of analysts by financial data provider FactSet…
