Caisse invests $6 million in Montreal toymaker Wooky Entertainment

MONTREAL – Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec says it has invested $6 million in Wooky Entertainment, a Montreal-based toy and game company.
The Quebec pension fund, which manages more than $225 billion in assets, says the deal was part of its strategy of supporting promising companies in the province that are looking to grow.
The fund says Wooky’s tween-focused toys and games are distributed to 1,500 retailers, including Walmart, Toys “R” Us and Tesco, in 50 countries.
The company’s products include the Style Me Up fashion kits, Design Masters vehicle sketchbooks, Charmazing charm bracelets and Artzooka craft kits.
Wooky is looking to expand into the Asia-Pacific market, opening its first office in Hong Kong at the beginning of the year.

GOOD NEWS FOR SUSPENDED SENATORS
If Prime Minister Stephen Harper calls an election this weekend it will be good news for three suspended senators embroiled in an expense scandal. The suspensions of Pamela Wallin, Mike Duffy and Patrick Brazeau only apply until the end of the current Parliamentary session, which dies with an election call. It means the three will resume drawing their salaries.
STATSCAN TO RELEASE GDP FIGURES
Canada’s political and business leaders will be watching today’s release of May’s gross domestic product. There are concerns that Canada slipped into a recession following April’s figures showing the economy contracted slightly. A recession is defined as two consecutive quarters with no growth, but economists say the situation is unclear, pointing to job growth and the stable employment rate.
