NEW YORK, N.Y. – U.S. stocks are up in midday trading, putting them on track to extend a winning streak that has erased most of this year’s early losses.
Banks are moving higher Friday after JP Morgan Chase and Bank of America announced plans to buy back their own shares. JP Morgan rose 2 per cent.
Starwood Hotels and Columbia Pipeline Group are up on sale talks.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 102 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 17,584 as of 11:55 a.m. Eastern time.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose 7 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 2,048, and it is now up slightly for the year. The Nasdaq composite rose 19 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 4,789.
